Karachi: Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhary said on Saturday that the Supreme Court always functioned within its constitutional orbit.
He was speaking to the role signing ceremony in Supreme Court Karachi Registry in which 23 lawyers were given certificates, allowing them to appear before the Supreme Court.
The CJP said that it was tried unfortunately to abolish the significance of the Supreme Court through PCO judges, in the past but it has prevented the course for martial law by invalidating the measures of 3 November, 2007. He said that under article 5 of the constitution, each and every citizen of the country especially lawyers are bounded to abide by the law.
He hoped that the lawyers which got certificate to practice in the Supreme Court would work for the supremacy of the law by saying “I have almost played my innings , it might be possible that tomorrow Chief Justice would come from emerging lawyers. This should be remembered that dispensation of justice to the common man is the primary duty of the court”, he added.
Earlier Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhary presided over the meeting in which he was briefed about the servant quarters and judicial lock up in the building of Supreme Court Karachi Registry.
During meeting Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali, Justice Sarmad Jalal Usmani, Justice Khilji Arif Hussain, Chief Justice Sind High Court Mushir Alam , Registrar Supreme Court Dr Faqir Hussain , Secretary Finance Sindh and Chief Engineer (Buildings) Sindh were present. Online
