Supreme Court accepts plea against killing of four prisoners

The Supreme Court (SC) has accepted appeals for hearing against killing of four prisoners in custody of security agencies.

A three-member bench of apex court headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and comprising Justice Khilji Arif Hussain and Justice Tariq Parvez heard the petition on Wednesday filed by Advocate Tariq Asad against the mysterious killing of four, out of eleven missing persons (former prisoners of Adiyala jail, Rawalpindi).
During the course of hearing the petitioner showed the pictures of dead bodies of those who have been killed.
A member of the bench Justice Tariq Parvez said that I have read in newspaper that the body of a prisoner had been recovered from fields.
The court approved the petition for hearing and issued notices to the respondents including attorney General Maulvi Anwar-ul-Haq, Secretary Defence Nargis Sethi, ISI Chief, DG, MI and others.
The chief justice termed the killings in custody of security agencies as serious and directed the government to submit its report after investigating the matter.
The court also issued notices to the chiefs of Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) and Military Intelligence (MI) and the secretary defence.
Attorney General Maulvi Anwarul Haq told the bench that he would submit his report on the next hearing of the case. The legal director of ISI Commander Shahbaz Bhatti was also present in the court. Later the hearing was adjourned till Jan 30. SANA
