Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani has said the present PPP government fully supports the creation of Seraiki province.
“I am in full support of our province (Saraeki). If new provinces,
including Saraeki province are not created during my Premiership, then
when it will happen,” the prime minister said in National Assembly in
response to a point of order by Sardar Mehtab Ahmed Khan Abbasi of
PML-N.
He asked the chief whip of Pakistan Peoples Party to hold
consultation with other coalition partners on the matter and move a
resolution in the house for the creation of the province. He said he
strongly favors the creation of the province as it is inline with the
aspirations of the people of the area and will ensure their rights. He
said those opposing the creation of the province will face defeat in the
elections.
Prime Minister Gilani strongly dispelled the impression that
creation of new provinces will weaken the country. Instead, it will keep
the country intact and strengthen the federation. Had the rights be
given to the smaller provinces, the East Pakistan would not have become a
separate state.
He maintained that the PPP is a federal party having roots in all
the provinces. We gave identity to the Khyber Pakhtunkhawa, Gilgit
Baltistan and FATA and similarly being from the Seraiki region, he will
ensure that the people of the area get equal rights.
About the creation of Hazara province, the prime minister said we
will also move forward on it by evolving consensus with the
stakeholders.
Reacting on the statement of a political leader about the
establishment of military courts in Karachi, the prime minister said
such courts have no room in the democracy. He said law and order
situation in Karachi has improved significantly.
About the situation in Balochistan, the prime minister directed the
interior minister to ensure law and order situation in the province. He
said we have given Aaghaz-e-Haqooq Balochistan package and its
implementation will be ensured at all costs. SANA
