The coalition partners of the government showing full confidence over the Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani have unanimously decided that they would not demand the resignation of PM Gilani and have unanimously advised Prime minister to appear before the Supreme Court on January 19.
Earlier, President Asif Ali Zardari arrived at the Prime Minister House to attend a meeting of the Parliamentary Committee of coalition partners held here on Monday. President Zardari took part in the meeting to show his support for the prime minister.
President Asif Ali Zardari said that relations with the army and the judiciary were getting better, adding that the government would not clash with the institutions.
Addressing the meeting of coalition partners in the government, the president said that they had faced the same situation in the past and they would manage to tackle the situation this time as well.
President Zardari thanked the coalition partners for expressing their confidence on the government.
He said that political situation would get better soon adding that the parliament is supreme and coalition partner’s role is important.
The meeting was presided over jointly by Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani and the heads of respective parliamentary parties and groups.
Sources said that President Asif Ali Zardari advised the prime minister to face the court. Coalition parties in the government also decided to endorse the pro-democracy resolution in National Assembly.
The meeting followed the Supreme Court issuing a contempt notice to the prime minister and summoning him in person on January 19.
Supreme Court ramped up the pressure on the beleaguered government, beginning contempt proceedings against the prime minister for failing to carry out its order to reopen a corruption case against the president.
The leaders of allied parties would also appear in the court along with Prime Minister.
The issues like pro-govt resolution in the National Assembly, memogate and NRO case were also included in the agenda of the meeting. SANA
