ISPR rejects attribution to Zardari, Kayani telephonic contact

RAWALPINDI: ISPR said that Chief of Army Staff (COAS) had only enquired about President Zardari’s health in telephonic conversation.

Inter-Public Service Relations’ press release issued here on Monday stated, “some events of the last 72 hours are being attributed to the telephonic conversation between the President and COAS and the meeting between the Prime Minister and COAS held on 16th December 2011.”
According to ISPR, the Prime Minister has already spoken on the subject in which he stated, “during the meeting with COAS on Friday night, I received a telephonic call from the President by chance. When I informed the President that I was having a meeting with the Army Chief, the President asked me to convey his regards to General Kayani. On this, COAS showed his desire to speak to the President.”
The telephonic conversation between the President and COAS lasted approximately one minute in which he enquired about the health of the President, the ISPR added. Hence, attributing anything more to this telephonic conversation is unfounded and unnecessary, it further said.
A spokesman of ISPR said that as regards the meeting between the COAS and Prime Minister, a comprehensive press release has already been issued by the PM House that is unambiguous.
Important event in last 72 hours was return of President Asif Zardari after twelve-day treatment in Dubai.
The telephonic conversation took place between Army Chief Ashfaq Pervez Kayani and the president.
The president departed on 6th of this month for medical treatment accidentally after Memogate scandal was in vogue and speculations started.
Then soon after the telephonic contact between COAS and meeting between Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, the return of Zardari took place. Online
