At least seven persons were injured, out of them two are in serious condition as a powerful blast took place outside the Karachi University here on Saturday.
The explosion occurred outside the university’s Silver Jubilee gate
as B.A and B. Sc papers were to be conducted in the city’s largest
university and a large number of students were present inside.
The injured were shifted in a private hospital; meanwhile a
motorcycle rider seriously wounded and his motor bike was severely
damaged in the result of the blast.
Spokesman of the university, while talking to media said no student
was hurt in the incident. He said the papers would be conducted as per
schedule.
Police and Rangers started a search operation in the university,
cordoning off the area, following the blast which took place on main
University Road, injuring a bike rider and another person outside the
gate.
Bomb disposal squad arrived at the scene to ascertain nature of the
blast. Source, however, said the bomb was caused by a time devise fixed
outside near main gate of the university.

The Spokesman of the Rangers Brigadier Wasim Ayyub talking to a
private TV channel said that some rangers’ personnel were injured in the
explosion as rangers personnel vehicle was passing near the blast site.
He said that the terrorists are trying to target rangers’ personnel
as rangers have arrested many terrorists and foiled many terrorism acts,
adding that no untoward incident happened during Ashoora and rangers
restored peace in Karachi.
He said that the investigations of the bomb blasts are underway and culprits would be punished according to law.
