Supreme Court has summoned details of government plan regarding
restoration of Pakistan Railway and court ordered to register cases
against officials of PR involved in corruption and scrape purchase
irregularities.
The Court has directed to Chairman PR after filing cases against
responsible of corruption these cases should be sent to NAB. Court
further said that Chairman NAB should take stern action against people
involved in mass corruption, adding that occupied land of railways
should be evacuated.
Two member bench of Supreme Court comprising Chief Justice of
Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and Justice Khilji Arif Hussain
heard the suo motu notice over non-payment of salaries and pensions to
railway employees.
Chairman Pakistan Railways Javed Iqbal informed the court that worker’s salaries and pensions will be transferred through banks from December whereas, payments for November will be given from today (Tuesday).

Javed Iqbal admitted that the scrape of Pak Railway was sold on 28
thousand rupees per matric ton instead of its real price of 5 lac rupees
per matric ton, adding that a bulb worth of 7 rupees was purchased on
400 rupees per item.
Chief Justice, in his remarks, said that the culture of paying bribe
for legal work if getting popular in Pakistan Railways. CJP said that
railway authorities are liable to criminal negligence for taking proper
measure for restoration of 500 engines after dumping.
Sheikh Rashid, also a party in the case, blamed that mechanical staff have been sent on forced leave in order to import new engines. He said that sitting minister is responsible for current situation of Pak Railways.

Secretary Railway Board Shafeeq Ullah said that a task force of
mechanical engineers has been formed for the restoration of engines,
adding that Sheikh Rashid is responsible for current situation of
Railways because he started 20 new trains instead of cargo train.
The court ordered to send the cases of sale of railway scrap and
irregularities in purchase of railway goods to NAB. The court also
directed to release the railway land from land mafia, adding that the
help of heavy mechanical complex and NLC should be taken to repair the
railway engines.
Later, the court adjourned the further hearing of case till November 10. SANA
