Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani has said that no Pakistan Peoples’ Party prime minister would write letter to Swiss authorities against President Zardari, adding that he would not resign to anyone’s wish and only parliament will decide his fate.
Speaking to a delegation of lawyers’ at his Lahore residence on Sunday, Gilani said that only Parliament could decide if he would remain as the prime minister. Gilani reiterated that he would not resign due to any political pressure or to fulfill anyone’s wishes, adding he has taken oath to protect the constitution and will continue following it.
PM Gilani, while responding to Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) leader Nawaz Sharif, said he would not resign to fulfill anyone’s wishes.
Gilani added that until the detailed verdict was in, Nawaz Sharif needed to keep his wishes repressed.
Gilani also said that Nawaz Sharif was “confused” and was now confusing politics too, adding, “I will actively reciprocate any kind of politics.”
The prime minister added that certain elements were conspiring against him and he would not back down from any conspiracies.
Gilani maintained that he will appeal against the ruling of Supreme Court.
Referring to the PML-N’s recent statements, Gilani questioned why Nawaz Sharif left for Jeddah under NRO, adding that it was PPP who abolished the bar of becoming third time prime minister ship under 18th amendment, adding that the amendment benefited only Nawaz Sharif.
On April 26, the Supreme Court convicted Prime Minister Gilani in the contempt case for failing to write the letter to Swiss authorities. The prime minister was sentenced till the rising of the court.
Speaking on the floor of the National Assembly after his conviction, Gilani had said that he could only be de-notified by the speaker of the house.
