Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar on Monday reiterated Pakistan’s
support for an Afghan-led and Afghan-owned peace and reconciliation
process in Afghanistan.The Foreign Minister was talking to Special
Representative of the United Nations Secretary General for Afghanistan J
n Kubis here.
The Minister emphasized that Afghan-led process was
critical for achieving an intra-Afghan political settlement with a view
to ensuring long term peace, stability and progress in the country.
Foreign Minister Khar welcomed Kubis on his first visit to Pakistan as
Special Representative of the Secretary General for Afghanistan.Kubis
took up his current position in Kabul on January 17 2012. The UNSG
Special Representative discussed the Afghan situation and the role of
UNAMA in Afghanistan.Foreign Minister Khar said that the fate of the two
countries was intrinsically interlinked.
She hoped that about three million Afghan refugees being hosted by
Pakistan will be able to return to Afghanistan with dignity and honour.
Foreign Minister Khar also stressed that the international community should focus on building Afghan institutions which was crucial for the sustainability of development in that country. APP
