11 killed in fresh spate of Karachi violence


KARACHI: At least eleven people have been killed and several injured in fresh spate of firing at different areas of Karachi during the past 24 hours, police said Tuesday.

Rangers and police kicked off a search operation in restive parts of the metropolis, arresting more than 33 suspects and recovering illegal arms.
Unknown terrorists attacked a mobile franchise in North Nazim Abad area, killing a guard and three other people, a woman among them. In the latest incident of violence, a passenger bus was attacked by unidentified armed men at Nagan Chowrangi area of the city, killing one and injuring five others.
Police said unknown armed men riding motorbikes intercepted 2K bus near Board Office in Nazim Abad and sprayed bullets at the vehicle. A man died on the spot while several other suffered bullet wounds.
Police and rescue teams arrived at the scene and ferried the injured to Abbasi Shaheed hospital and Jinnah Medical Center. Identity of the deceased was yet to be ascertained.
In another incident of targeted-killing, a doctor was gunned down in Malir area. Police said Dr Ashfaque was on his way in his car when unknown assailants stopped the vehicle and opened fire on the doctor. He was critically injured and died on way to Jinnah hospital.
In the wake of recent incidents of violence and killings motivated by sectarian reasons, police and Rangers on Monday started search operation in Liaqat Abad and Orangi Town, Baloch Para, Angara Goth, Qasba Colony, Mijahid Colony, Ranchore Line, Quaid e Azam Colony, Bukhari Colony, Ali Garh Colony and different areas of Malir.
The law enforcers claimed to have arrested over 33 suspects from the tense areas.
The member Balochistan assembly, Mir Bakhtiar Khan Domki, lawmaker’s wife Zomar, daughter Jana and driver Barkat, were killed late on Monday when unidentified assailants opened fire on their car near Gizri Bridge in Karachi. Online
