Country passing through a difficult & challenging phase: PM Gilani

Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani has said that all institutions are working within the ambit of the Constitution and there was no room for rumour-mongering.

Talking to newsmen after special cabinet meeting in Peshawar on Wednesday, he said the country is passing through a difficult and challenging phase and there is need for stability.
He emphasized that the unity should be forged so that we could face the challenges together.
Replying to a question as to what Pakistan would demand from the United States in the backdrop of stalmate in relations following 26/11 attack, the Prime Minister said Pakistan wants guarantees for its sovereignty and such unilateral actions should not be taken in future.
The Prime Minister said enough is enough and there can’t be any compromise on sovereignty.
To a question he said the strategy approved by the Defence Committee of the Cabinet after Salala incident has been endorsed by Federal Cabinet, National Security Committee of the Parliament and the Envoys Conference. The recommendations of the National Security Committee would be considered by the parliament.  
He said the new rules of engagement with the United States and ISAF would be formulated with collective wisdom and these would have support of the whole nation.  He said such an engagement would be durable and objective.
Asked when negotiations with the United States would begin, he said very soon.
About talks with militants, the Prime Minister said as per tribal traditions the militants will first have to surrender before the political agents and only then talks are possible.
The Prime Minister told a questioner that a strong and prosperous Afghanistan is in Pakistan’s own interests. He said both countries have suffered due to terrorism. 
Responding to another question he said a meeting with the provincial government would be held soon to improve coordination for implementation of development projects. SANA
