Conspiracies aimed at avoiding Senate election: PM Gilani

LAHORE: Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani on Sunday said that the conspiracies by some elements against thedemocratic government were aimed at avoiding March 2012 Senate election.

Talking to media persons at the marriage ceremony of former SCBA President Asma Jehangir’s daughter Sulema here, he said the memogate was a non-issue and giving undue importance to the non-issues had put the country’s integrity at stake.
Rejecting the idea of technocrat government, the Prime Minister said, "There is no room for technocrats, caretakers or ’chair-takers’ in the system".
Replying to a question regarding any change in the democratic set-up, Gilani said the Pakistan Peoples Party fully believed in democracy and political forces never contemplated or supported such anti- democracy ideas.
Regarding the health of President Asif Ali Zardari, he said the President was fast recuperating and he would assume his office very soon.
The Prime Minister also hinted at the possibility that the President might reach Pakistan well before the martyrdom anniversary of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto on December 27. Online
