Pakistan's prime minister and president have condemned the assassination of former Afghan President Burhanuddin Rabbani.
Rabbani
headed a peace council set up by the Afghan government to facilitate
contacts with Taliban insurgents and had frequent dealings with
Pakistan.
A Pakistani government statement Tuesday said Prime
Minister Yusuf Reza Gilani and President Asif Ali Zardari conveyed
their "extreme anger and shock" to the Afghan government over the
killing.
Taliban factions based in northwest Pakistan, allegedly
supported by elements of the Pakistani security forces, have been
blamed by Afghan and U.S. authorities for high-profile attacks in
Afghanistan, especially in Kabul, over the past three years. AP
