Army psychiatrists have taken nine months to judge that he is mentally fit to stand trial, CBS News reports.
Manning, who faces 22 new charges, has now been brought out of solitary confinement and is living with other inmates in a separate security facility at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. He is likely to be there for a long time before his trial starts.
Earlier it was claimed that Manning was made to strip every night at the Quantico brig to protect him from committing suicide, although psychiatrists denied such speculations to be valid.
If Manning is convicted of all the charges, he faces life in prison, reduction in rank to the lowest enlisted pay grade, a dishonourable discharge and loss of all pay and allowances. (ANI)
