Zulfiqar Mirza’s statements: Fehmida considering a few weeks’ leave

ISLAMABAD: National Assembly ( NA) session starting from September, 12 has become a test for NA speaker Dr Fehmida Mirza following the recent statements given by her husband Zulfiqar Mirza and charge sheet presented by him against MQM while she is considering to proceed on leave for a few weeks in the prevailing situation.

Well placed sources told Dr Fehmida Mirza would preside over NA session commencing from September 12 and Karachi incident and Dr Zulfiqar Mirza statements will figure atop in the session.
Sources told this session could prove very tough for Dr Fehmida Mirza as she would have to listen to the speeches of NA members agaisnt her husband with high degree of patience. MQM legaislators have evolved a policy to give statements against Dr Zulfiqar Mirza in NA session.
However, sources told Online that Dr Fehmida Mirza may not preside over this session of NA in the wake of prevailing situation and take leave for a weeks to focus her attention on relief and rehahabilitaiton work for flood affectees in Badin.
Sources told a circle from PPP had raised question mark over continuing her obligations as speaker by Dr Fehmida Mirza after the recent statements of her husband Dr Zulfiqar Mirza but Asif Ali Zardari rejected these question marks and directed her to continue her responsibilities and not link them with Dr Zulfiqar Mirza matter.
When contacted by Online, senior lawyer and senator SM Zafar said if some personal matter of NA speaker is raised on NA forum and there may be apprehension that speaker will not remain neutral then it is responsibility of speaker to entrust the responsibility of conducting assembly proceedings to deputy speaker.
