The Sindh Government has given 'shoot at sight' orders to the police and Rangers on the special directives of President Asif Ali Zardari in a bid to control the deteriorating situation in Karachi, where the death toll has risen to 77 in three days.
The announcement was made by Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah in an emergency meeting with law enforcing agencies in which all issues related to the worsening law and order situation of Karachi were discussed.
It was also decided that the law enforcing agencies would arrest people who forcefully close down shops and businesses in any strike call, the Daily Times reports. s per President House sources, heads of law enforcement agencies would brief the President Zardari about the deteriorating law and order situation in Karachi and recommend measures to control the situation.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Interior Minister Rehman Malik has said that the Pakistan Government is considering a surgical operation in targeted areas of Karachi, where at least 45 people were killed and over 100 wounded on Thursday.
Police and Rangers stayed away from the violence- stricken areas in Karachi, the Nation reports.
They did not even provide security to passenger buses, as a result of which 12 commuters were shot dead, when gunmen on motorbikes intercepted an Orangi bound bus and sprayed bullets on it.
Karachi Transport Ittehad (KTI) chief Irshad Bukhari said that that many besides the passengers, many drivers and conductors were killed and buses were burnt, but the government and the law enforcerment agencies failed to arrest the culprits.
Meanwhile, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) has called for a countrywide day of mourning on Friday for those killed in the violence. (ANI)
