Cooked tomatoes and tomato products could possibly be more effective
than medication in the fight against high cholesterol and blood
pressure.
A study out of Australia suggests that adding two ounces of tomato paste or a pint of tomato juice is equivalent to 50 grams of the anti-oxidant 'lycopene.'
Researchers found that 50 grams of the chemical a day lowers bad cholesterol and high blood pressure levels just as effectively as cholesterol medications known as statins, but without the potentially harmful side effects.
