Militancy to be rooted out soon: Iftikhar Hussain

BANNU: Provincial Information Minister Mian Iftikhar Hussain on Friday said that militancy would soon be rooted out from the province.

“The network of the militants has been dismantled. They are now fighting for their survival,” he told a function held in connection with the oath-taking ceremony of the newly-elected office-bearers of the Bannu Press Club. Provincial Minister for Labour Sher Azam, MPAs Adnan Khan Wazir and Yasmin Zia Marwat were also present.
He said the Awami National Party-led provincial government would spare no efforts to eliminate militancy in the province. He said the government was committed to curbing militancy as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had been affected the most because of the subversive activities of the militants.
Iftikhar came down hard on the Jamaat-e-Islami for issuing the white paper and said that his government had inherited these problems from the former Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal government.
The minister lauded security forces for rendering sacrifices for restoring peace to the province.
On the occasion, the minister announced Rs0.5 million grant for the press club and said that a media colony would be established to facilitate local journalists.  He added that an industrial estate would be set up in Bannu to provide job opportunities to the locals.
