Parliament deliberates over Pak-US relationship

ISLAMABAD: The meeting of Parliament held on Wednesday, as convened by Speaker Dr. Fehmida Mirza, was delayed by almost an hour.

The meeting started with recitation of The Holy Quran, after which the critical review of Pak-USA relationship was carried out.
Speaking at a point-of-order, newly elected Parliamentarian, senator Saif ullah Khan declared that today’s session was historically acclaimed due to the fact that a ‘new issue regarding bold initiatives of government ‘ was being highlighted.
He said that had the NATO supplies not been banned, this session would not have been held. He held the Afghan war as being responsible for losing any better employment opportunities for Pakistani youth; hence peace in Afghanistan would have to be sought at all costs.
He also stressed on review of government’s foreign policy, urging lessons gleaned from experiments /practices of such friends like Turkey and China.
On the occasion he also questioned the notion that if Turkey could work for American interests, why it couldn’t do the same for Pakistan.
Taking part in the debate JUI (ideological) member Maulvi Asmat ullah expressed his gut feelings about the recommendations submitted by PCNC (Parliamentary Committee for National Security) , for betraying the notion of a possible pre-planned agenda with USA , which has hardly been / would hardly been s friendly one.
Independent candidate Zafar Baig declared the PCNS agenda as a continuity of Musharraf regime, which were being legalized.
Berating American atrocities in Afghanistan, he said that all damage sustained by Pakistan was due to imprudent policies of the Federation itself, and stressed on dealing with America on equality basis. Online
