ISLAMABAD: Residents of twin cities especially those belonging to
middle and lower middle class are finding it hard to buy sacrificial
animals due to escalating price hike and they are even finding
collective Qurbani (Sacrifice) unaffordable.
Most people looking
astonish after asking the prices of goats and cows as the prices were
beyond their imagination. “We experienced that prices of these animal
have became double as compared to previous two years, the calf we bought
for Rs. 42000 in 2009 from the market located at I-10/1, this year it
costs Rs. 80,000 in the same market” said Shehryar, a resident of
Islamabad.
A goat seller who came from District Rahim Yar Khan
told this scribe that price of each and every item is increasing adding
that augment in cost of goats is reasonable as food expenditures of
these animals are also increasing with price hike of other items with
the passage of time.
Similarly a cow seller in the same animal
market who came from Muzaffar Garh said that prices of cows are not much
high as prices of prepared meat are also going up and up, “there is not
enough margin despite buyers consider such prices excessive, “he added.
He said presently the business activity in the market is cold as most
of the visitors came here just to analyze the market and their
affordability.
Another cow seller who had come from Talagang who
brought 10 cows where the lowest one costs Rs. 10,0000 and the highest
one costs Rs. 2,30000 said that the feed of these animals which include
milk also is very costly.
While on the other hand number of
customers were returning to their homes without buying goats or cows
claiming that prices of these animals just before a week ago from Eid
ul Azha are beyond their range.
They were of the view that animal prices might be reduced within few days when the Eid festival will become nearer. Online
