Sale of sacrificial animals slow

ISLAMABAD: Residents of twin cities especially those belonging to middle and lower middle class are finding it hard to buy sacrificial animals due to escalating price hike and they are even finding collective Qurbani (Sacrifice) unaffordable.

Most people looking astonish after asking the prices of goats and cows as the prices were beyond their imagination. “We experienced that prices of these animal have became double as compared to previous two years, the calf we bought for Rs. 42000 in 2009 from the market located at I-10/1, this year it costs Rs. 80,000 in the same market” said Shehryar, a resident of Islamabad.
A goat seller who came from District Rahim Yar Khan told this scribe that price of each and every item is increasing adding that augment in cost of goats is reasonable as food expenditures of these animals are also increasing with price hike of other items with the passage of time.
Similarly a cow seller in the same animal market who came from Muzaffar Garh said that prices of cows are not much high as prices of prepared meat are also going up and up, “there is not enough margin despite buyers consider such prices excessive, “he added. He said presently the business activity in the market is cold as most of the visitors came here just to analyze the market and their affordability.
Another cow seller who had come from Talagang who brought 10 cows where the lowest one costs Rs. 10,0000 and the highest one costs Rs. 2,30000 said that the feed of these animals which include milk also is very costly.
While on the other hand number of customers were returning to their homes without buying goats or cows claiming that prices of these animals just before a week ago from Eid ul Azha are beyond their range.
They were of the view that animal prices might be reduced within few days when the Eid festival will become nearer. Online
