One Pakistani policeman and three unknown militants have been killed in a clash between security forces and gunmen in Pakistan's northwestern tribal region.
Security officials told Press TV that the gunfight occurred before dawn on Monday after militants attacked a police patrol in the northwestern city of Peshawar, killing one policeman and injuring another.
Just after the attack, police retaliated and killed three attackers, the officials said.
In a separate development, Pakistani police defused a six-kilo bomb, which had been planted in the residence of Jamiat-e-Islami leader Shabir Ahmad Khan in Peshawar.
Pakistan's Interior Minister Rehman Malik has recently said that at least 1,500 people were killed in more than 1,330 bomb attacks across the Asian country in 2010.
Malik also told Pakistani lawmakers on Friday that 4,968 people were injured in the bomb explosions last year.
More than 4,200 people have been killed across Pakistan in attacks blamed on Taliban and other extremist groups since 2007, according to the AFP news agency.
